 Caribbean Netherlands

1. Exploratory phase: underway
2. Implementation agenda: not yet started

If the Dutch government becomes a signatory to the Faro Convention, it will do so on behalf of both the European Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba). The text of the convention may have different implications for these islands than for the European Netherlands. Together with the three island governments, an exploration is therefore underway of what Faro may mean for the islands.

Discussions have also been held with a number of organizations on Sint Eustatius. They have come up with their own vision for Faro. That document can be found on this page.

The Netherlands will not automatically sign on behalf of the other countries that make up the Kingdom of the Netherlands: CuraƧao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. They will be asked at a later stage whether they wish to sign the convention themselves.
