Caribbean Netherlands
Welcome to the Caribbean Netherlands theme
The Caribbean and the European Netherlands can inspire each other in translating the Faro Treaty into their own heritage practice. Dutch cultural policy applies to municipalities in the European Netherlands and to public bodies in the Caribbean Netherlands. The islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba are actively involved in new policy developments, with an eye for the frameworks and possibilities that apply there.
Commitment in the coming years
In the spring of 2022, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science asked the RCE to carry out its own Faro exploration for the Caribbean Netherlands. Faro is already included in the 2022-2025 Cultural Agreement that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the three island governments concluded this autumn. The agreement indicates on which topics Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba want to collaborate with the ministry and its government services. In July 2022, an invitation was sent to the island authorities to introduce the treaty and explore together what the ideas mean to them. The first reactions to the treaty are enthusiastic. Faro fits in well with its own heritage approach in which the living environment of the residents is already central.
More information about the ambitions for the Caribbean Dutch theme can be found in Onderweg naar Faro - Uitvoeringsagenda Faro Deel I (p. 42-43).
