Co-waarderen webinar 4 (Voertaal ENG): From policy to practice: Participatory heritage and shared ownership in archaeology - The Wyldemerck Case
There is broad support within the heritage sector for the principles of the Faro Convention, but its application in practice can be complex. The Wyldemerck project offers opportunities to discuss this together.
Wyldemerck – searching together for barracks in the woods is a participatory archaeological heritage project in which Moluccan stakeholders worked with professionals to research their own heritage in a former residential area in Friesland. The community was an equal partner in the process.
We will discuss this with Jobbe Wijnen (researcher contemporary heritage and conflict archeology, and initiator of the Wyldemerck project) and MA students from the Master Applied Museum & Heritage Studies at the Reinwardt Academy, and we welcome input from all attendees. Hosted by Mirjam Sneeuwloper with contributions from Csilla Ariese, Mirjam Shatanawi and Menno Welling, lecturers at the Reinwardt Academy.
About co-valuation
The Heritage Lab is affiliated as a partner with the Co-valuation Learning Network. Co-valuation focuses on valuation processes in which heritage institutions work together on an equal footing with groups, communities or individuals who have a say in the choices to be made. With the network, set up by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands and FARO Flemish Support Centre for Cultural Heritage, education, government and the field have started to work even more closely together on this theme. In 2024 and 2025, a number of study and practical days took place in this context. The blogs written about this can be read online. In 2025 and 2026, a number of webinars will be organised in which we will work with students on useful concepts, materials and tools from the network. At the end of the year, this will result in a workbook that can be used to continue working independently. The webinars are open to the public. Sign up for the newsletter to receive more information.
